About Dr. Shaker...

Dr. George ShakerDr. Shaker is a graduate of Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts. He continued his studies in Medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine. He graduated with Honors and was awarded the Doran Stevens Prize for excellence in patient care. During medical school, Dr. Shaker spent one year as a fellow in the Department of Ophthalmology studying factors which affect corneal wound healing as well as the treatment of keratitis sicca (dry eye), work which resulted in the publication of several journal articles and the honor of Distinction in Research.

Dr. Shaker completed his training in Ophthalmology and eye surgery at the University of Chicago. He was chosen to serve as the department’s Chief Resident. Dr. Shaker became certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology in 1995.

Dr. Shaker is a Diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology, and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, the New Hampshire Medical Society, the Hillsborough County Medical Society and the New Hampshire Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons.

Dr. Shaker is on staff at both Catholic Medical Center and the Elliot Hospital. He performs surgery at both institutions as well as at the Elliot One-Day Surgery Center and the Optima Laser Center. He is currently a member of the hospital’s Medical Management Committee.

Dr. Shaker’s primary area of interest is the surgical treatment of eye conditions. This includes laser surgery for the correction of myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism as well as the treatment of cataract, glaucoma, retinal disorders, and strabismus (misaligned eyes) in adults and children.
